The period is also known as Pitri Paksha/Pitr-Paksha, Pitri Pokkho, Sorah Shraddha, Kanagat, Jitiya, Mahalaya, Apara Paksha and akhadpak.It usually falls during the waning phase of the moon (Krishna Paksha) in the month of Ashwin (September-October). Performing these rituals is believed to help in resolving family issues, ensuring prosperity, and receiving blessings from departed ancestors.
